Spot a fake Kit Pay app
How to check you are running the official Kit Pay app, the exact identifiers to verify, and the traps fake apps use.
A fake payment app is the perfect scam: you hand over your number, your codes, and your PIN just by using it normally. The defence is simple and mechanical — know where the official app lives and what it is called, and refuse everything else.
The official identifiers
The genuine Kit Pay app has the Android package name com.kit.wallet and the iOS bundle identifier africa.kit.pay.ios. On Android you can see an installed app's package name in your phone settings under the app's details; anything else wearing the Kit name and logo is an imitation. The get-the-app page states where Kit Pay can officially be installed right now — treat any listing or link it does not show with suspicion, and verify the identifiers above before trusting an installed copy.
Where fakes come from
- APK files shared on WhatsApp, Telegram groups, or flash drives — the most common route by far.
- Websites offering a Kit Pay download outside the official stores, sometimes with a countdown or a bonus for installing today.
- Look-alike listings with a slightly different name, logo, or developer, hoping you tap the first search result without reading.
- A borrowed phone with a fake already installed, handed to you to sign in just this once.
If you suspect the app on your phone
- Stop using it immediately — do not sign in one last time to check.
- Compare the package name or bundle identifier against the official ones above.
- If it is fake: uninstall it, then change your wallet PIN from the genuine app on a clean device, and review your sessions.
