Account deletion and your data
How deleting a Kit Pay account works: the in-app request, what is deleted or de-identified, and what may be retained by law.
Leaving should be as honest as joining, so here is account deletion without softening: what you do, what happens, and what the law requires to remain. The authoritative reference is the account-deletion page, which exists for exactly this; this article is the plain-language walk through it.
Requesting deletion
- Open Profile in the Kit Pay app and choose Delete account. Deletion is an account action, so it happens only from your signed-in account — there is no email, phone, or web channel for it, because a request made outside your authenticated app cannot be verified as yours.
- The app asks for a one-time, account-specific authorization before accepting the request — deliberate friction, so that a stolen unlocked phone cannot quietly erase you.
- If you cannot sign in, regain access first — account recovery explains what to expect — and then request deletion from inside.
What happens after acceptance
- The account leaves service: no more sign-in, no new activity, sessions and trusted devices and push registrations revoked.
- Future payment instructions that have not begun processing are stopped.
- Eligible service data is deleted or de-identified, with provider and backup copies expiring through their own controlled schedules rather than instantly.
- A wallet balance, an operation still being reconciled, an open dispute, or active merchant ownership may require an assisted closure step first — the app explains what needs resolving.
What may be retained, and why
A payment service cannot lawfully forget everything: records with a documented financial, fraud-prevention, dispute, security, or legal-retention basis are kept for their required period, access-restricted, and not used to keep serving a closed account. That is the honest shape of deletion in a regulated domain — the privacy policy sets out the governing terms, and the account-deletion page lists the categories deleted and retained.
Frequently asked questions
Should I empty my wallet before requesting deletion?
A remaining balance is one of the situations that needs resolving as part of closure, so settling your balance first makes the process simpler. The app tells you what stands between your request and completion.
Does deleting the app delete my account?
No. Uninstalling removes the app from your phone; your account continues to exist until you request deletion from inside the app and it is accepted.
