Lost or stolen phone

The first hour after losing your phone: protect your SIM and Kit Pay account, in the right order, from any other phone.

Losing a phone is horrible; losing it with a wallet inside feels worse. Here is the honest starting point: a thief holding your phone still faces your phone lock, and sensitive Kit Pay actions still require approval with your wallet PIN or the device security enrolled on it. You have layers. Use the first hour to make them count.

Do these, in this order

  1. From any phone or computer, use your platform's find-my-device service to lock the handset, and wipe it if you are sure it is gone.
  2. Call your mobile network and block the SIM. Your number receives security codes, so the SIM matters as much as the phone.
  3. From another phone with Kit Pay — yours later, or a trusted person's for the call to the network — sign in when you can and review your sessions, signing out the lost device.
  4. Change your wallet PIN once you are signed in somewhere safe, especially if anyone could ever have watched you type it.
  5. Check your recent wallet history for anything you did not do, and report through Help in the app.

When you replace the SIM

Your mobile network can usually reissue your number on a replacement SIM — the process and requirements are theirs, so ask them what they need. Guard that process: it is the same mechanism SIM-swap fraudsters abuse, so do it in person with your ID where possible. Once the new SIM is in a new handset, switching to a new phone gets Kit Pay back into your hands. Then read your recent history carefully and report anything you did not authorise through Help in the app.

What the thief actually got

Without your phone unlock, your wallet PIN, and your biometrics, what they mostly hold is hardware. This is why the preparation articles matter before anything is ever lost: a strong phone lock, a private wallet PIN, and no PIN written in the notes app turn a stolen phone from a robbery into an inconvenience.

Frequently asked questions

Can the thief spend my Kit Pay balance?

Sensitive money actions require approval with your wallet PIN or enrolled device security. Keep those private and act quickly on the steps above, and the odds are firmly on your side.

Is my money gone if the phone is wiped or destroyed?

No. Your wallet lives with your account, not the handset. Sign in on a replacement phone and everything is there.
