Fingerprint and face unlock

Using your phone's fingerprint or face unlock with Kit Pay, and how device security fits alongside your wallet PIN.

On phones that support it, Kit Pay can use your device security — fingerprint or face unlock — as a way to approve sensitive actions. It is faster than typing, harder to shoulder-surf in a taxi, and for most people it quietly raises their everyday security.

How it works with the wallet PIN

Sensitive money actions require approval tied to what you are doing, using your wallet PIN or supported device security. Biometrics are a second way of giving the same intent-bound approval — not a way around it. Whichever you use, the approval is attached to the specific action in front of you, never a blanket permission.

Your fingerprint or face never leaves the phone. The handset's own secure hardware checks the biometric and simply tells the app that the check passed; Kit Pay does not receive, store, or ever see an image of your finger or face.

Setting it up well

  1. Enrol your fingerprint or face in the phone's own settings first — Kit Pay uses what the device provides.
  2. In Kit Pay, open the security settings and turn on device security for approvals.
  3. Confirm the change. The app verifies it is really you before any security setting moves.

When the PIN still matters

  • A wet or dusty sensor, a bandaged finger, or bad light can make biometrics fail — the PIN is your steady fallback.
  • A new phone means new device security. Until you enrol there, the PIN carries you.
  • If you share the handset temporarily, typing the PIN out of sight can be preferable to a stored biometric.

So keep the PIN strong and private even after enrolling biometrics — it remains a first-class way to approve, not a forgotten backup. Wallet PIN basics explains what that approval actually covers, and protecting your phone helps you harden the device itself.

Frequently asked questions

Does Kit Pay store my fingerprint?

No. The phone's secure hardware checks the biometric and only reports that the check passed. Kit Pay never receives the biometric itself.

If biometrics are on, is my PIN switched off?

No. Both are ways of giving the same intent-bound approval, and the PIN remains available whenever you need it.
