Mobile money Coming soon
Mobile money on Kit Pay
The coming bridge between your Kit Pay wallet and MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money, and what its arrival will mean.
In Uganda, mobile money is not a payment method — it is the payment method. Any wallet that wants to matter here has to shake hands with MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money, and Kit Pay is building exactly that: moving money between your wallet and the mobile money networks, in both directions.
What the bridge is for
- Topping up — moving value from your mobile money balance into your Kit Pay wallet.
- Cashing out — moving wallet value to mobile money, where the agent network turns it into cash on nearly any street.
- Reaching people — value that can flow to mobile money can effectively reach almost anyone in Uganda.
The MTN and Airtel pages track each network specifically; wallet vs mobile money explains what stays different even after the bridge opens.
Why it is not simply switched on
A mobile money transfer crosses two live systems owned by different companies, and the failure modes live in the seam — money leaving one side and not arriving on the other. So each rail is proven against its real provider before opening, and the app announces a rail only when it genuinely works end to end. Why mobile money arrives in stages tells that story properly, and it is worth reading; the staging is the trustworthy behaviour, not the disappointing one.
What will not change
Moving money to or from mobile money is a sensitive money action like any other: it requires approval tied to what you are doing, using your wallet PIN or supported device security, and every movement lands as a ledger entry in your history. The bridge changes where money can go — not how carefully it moves.
Frequently asked questions
Can I top up from MTN or Airtel today?
Not yet — the rails are coming soon. Your app is the honest answer for your account: when a rail is genuinely open for you, it appears there.
Will both networks open at the same time?
Each rail opens on its own merit, when its own live checks pass. The app announces each one as it becomes real rather than promising dates.
